Fright Night in NOLA is like no other

Halloween everywhere is a big celebration and New Orleans is no exception – the source of endless fun for kids of all ages – by which we mean from zero to 70!

The whole city is buzzing with ghoulish and frightening characters. No other city shows such imagination when it comes to celebrating the event with such innovative and striking costumes. You may run into a vampire or even a few werewolves, scampering out underneath the moonlit sky! New Orleans is a city that certainly knows how to shock people.

You could also take one of the haunted tours through the French Quarter or one of NOLA’s other ghoulish areas. There are haunted houses uptown, in the Garden District and elsewhere, if you know where to go or are with someone who does. The city also has many world-famous cemeteries where the recently departed are buried in tombs above ground. Hundreds of stories abound in which the ghosts of these “Cities of the Dead” make their presence known. Some of these have actually been documented and visually captured.

While prowling around the French Quarter there are a number of Voodoo shops you can check out to learn a little more about the history behind these centuries-old spiritual practices. You could learn how to practice some witchcraft and discover more about vampires in numerous themed shops. Some of these shops throw special events over Halloween to keep you entertained.

There are other events running in NOLA in October, notably the Oktoberfest which celebrates all that is best about Bavarian culture. The weather’s a bit cooler and less humid and ideal for wandering around the city. You could also visit the Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival, between October 18 and October 20, if you are planning to be in NOLA a bit earlier. Expect live music and exquisite barbecue delights. The action takes place in Lafayette Square, sandwiched between St. Charles Avenue and Camp Street, one block from bustling Poydras Street and directly across the street from the Federal Court House. The festival is free of charge and open to the public.

The city looks forward to welcoming you with open arms. If you would like to attend NOLA’s Halloween festival or the Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival and need transportation in New Orleans, want to reach one of the events or need to get to a restaurant or hotel – we can help you.
