While New Orleans people, who have experienced the great hurricane Katrina back in 2005, feel greatly for East-coasterners, now suffering the aftermath of Sandy, it is good to rest assured that the city is now protected against such natural disasters. More than 15 billion dollars have been spent to repair the damages in New Orleans and surrounding areas since then. The rebuilding and restoration works after Katrina are a great evidence of the efficiency of the new U.S. economy. On 27 August 2012 The [New Orleans] Times-Picayune published a great infographic, showing the current NOLA protection against hurricanes.
