This year’s Mardi Gras was on February 21st, but the celebrations started yet on January 6th, when the delicious kingcakes became available. Mardi Gras in French, Fat Tuesday in English, it was more than a month of parades, tasty food and fun festivities for people of all ages and all nationalities, visiting New Orleans from all around the world. Undoubtedly this decadent tradition also enlivened New Orleans economy, raising the annual GDP of the city. Taking a look at the infographic below will reveal that war‘s been the only reason Mardi Gras has ever been canceled. Fortunately it hasn’t happened and won’t happen anytime soon. In the meantime, the net fiscal benefit for the City of New Orleans is more than 13 billion USD. Wow! It means that the city received 8 dollars for every one dollar invested in the festivities.
